A dashboard built with vibe coding is useful when it helps make a specific decision. Before choosing charts, identify the action the team needs to take. An attractive screen loses value if the numbers mean different things to different people.

Start with a management question

“Which cases need a follow-up this week?” provides a better starting point than “Build a complete dashboard”. The first request makes you define a deadline, status and owner.

Choose three to five pieces of information initially. For each, state the possible decision: contact someone, examine an anomaly or reassign a task. If you cannot name an action, the indicator can wait.

Define every indicator

A request count might mean cases created, received or still open. Specify the definition, period and any exclusions.

Prepare a small reference table with known totals. Ten fictional cases let you quickly check the counts. If the prototype shows a change, specify its comparison period and how the periods are made comparable.

Make the source visible

During a trial, figures may come from a manually imported file. Show its reference date and explain when information is refreshed. A table loaded yesterday should not imply live tracking.

If you later connect a source, plan for it becoming unavailable. Readers must be able to distinguish no activity from no data. Showing zero in place of an error could lead to a wrong decision.

Choose the chart after the question

A trend often suits a line chart; category comparisons may suit bars. A list can be enough to identify cases to address. Provide detail when a headline number calls for action.

Check the result on a phone and without relying solely on colour. Labels, units and values should remain readable. The same screen should help someone encountering the indicators for the first time.

Arrange an initial review session

Show the dashboard to its future users and ask a concrete question: “What would you do based on this screen?” Observe the decisions suggested and any misunderstandings.

Correct definitions before adding animations. Then decide who validates indicators and follows up anomalies. A lasting dashboard depends as much on that responsibility as on its presentation.

Frequently asked questions

How many indicators should you show?

Begin with a small set tied to precise decisions. Add an indicator when you can explain the action or analysis it enables.

Can you use simulated data?

Yes, to test the journey. Label it as fictional and replace it with a verified source before interpreting the dashboard as a picture of actual activity.
