To manage confidentiality in a vibe coding application, start by following the data. Distinguish information given to the tool that builds the application from information later processed by the application itself. These are different stages, with services and access rights to examine separately.
Examine the two flows separately
During construction, you may send a prompt, file or example to an AI service. During use, a form may send answers to a server or another platform.
Draw both journeys. At each step, record the information transmitted, its destination and the reason for sending it. You can then see whether a customer name is needed for the prototype or a fictional example is enough.
Limit information in the first trial
A sales preparation form can be tested with “Company A” and an invented need. A calculator can be checked using fictional amounts. These inputs still need to be coherent enough for useful testing.
Do not assume replacing a name guarantees anonymity. A detailed account may still identify a situation. For the prototype, reconstruct a scenario that illustrates the difficulty without reproducing an identifiable case.
Verify what is kept
Close and reopen the page, then examine what reappears. This gives an observation but does not establish where everything is stored. Have the behaviour confirmed by someone able to examine the application and its services.
Ask about the provider’s terms for data, permissions and available settings. An option advertised in a presentation may depend on a plan or configuration. Record the configuration used for your project.
Prepare export and deletion
Choose a fictional case and have someone demonstrate how to find, export and delete it in the intended locations. Check what different users can see afterwards.
State the limits of the demonstration: some services may retain logs or backups under their terms. Before moving to real data, have the processing and applicable obligations examined by the relevant people in your organisation.
Give users a clear rule
During the trial, specify what information they may enter and whom to contact about a difficulty. A precise instruction such as “Use the fictional cases provided for this test” is easier to follow than a general statement.
Reassess the data journey when adding a connection, account or AI feature. Your oversight needs to follow the project: a new function may introduce a new destination or access right.
Frequently asked questions
Does the risk come only from the prompt?
No. Examine the generation service and the resulting application, including any integrations. Their data flows may differ.
Can you use customer data in a prototype?
Begin with fictional scenarios. Before any real data, have the processing, permissions, service terms and your organisation’s rules checked.
